About Us
Welcome! We're Rachel Joyanthi and Michelle Jayshree Ernest-Cohen, the co-founders of the Brown Women's Empowerment Sisterhood. Our philosophy here at BWES is guided by the principles of intersectional feminism, and although we mainly serve women of color, our organization does not cater solely to individuals who identify as female. We strive to cultivate a safe and inclusive space for any and all people who are interested in supporting the BWES mission.
Although we started out with just the two of us back in November 2020, our non-profit organization has grown rapidly and we now have 4 other members of the board of directors who so wonderfully embody what BWES stands for: courage, integrity, compassion and generosity. At 23 members and counting, we are now more than ever well-equipped to empower, support and protect women of color per our mission statement.
We invite you to peruse our website to get a better sense of our offerings as an organization, as well as to discover opportunities for involvement in BWES activities. We look forward to hearing from you!
With love and kindness,
Rachel Joyanthi & Michelle Jayshree
