Brown Women's Empowerment Sisterhood
at a glance
Brown Women's Empowerment Sisterhood knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. Coming from a long line of empowered South-Asian activists and feminists, we were inspired to found our non-profit organization with the ultimate goal of empowering, protecting, and supporting women not only across Africa and South Asia, but also in our home community of Montreal, Canada.
Activities & Events
Brown Women's Empowerment Sisterhood is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. Our work encompasses digital advocacy, seminars, fundraising campaigns, social gatherings and more. Read the boxes below to learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work every day to promote positive outcomes for women of color.

Empowerment
At Brown Women's Empowerment Sisterhood, we are firmly devoted to empowering women of color worldwide. We achieve this mission by hosting regular events and activities that create a safe and inclusive space for women to share, relate and celebrate what makes them unique. Check out our upcoming events from the menu at the top of the page, or learn how you can help advance the BWES cause by clicking "Get Involved".
Support
From the BWES Buddy System to our Girl Talk sessions, we have a proven dedication to creating a system of support for our members and non-members alike. In the near future, BWES has plans to develop a network of resources for women in need, which will enable easy access to legal professionals, counselors, and other relevant resource persons. Furthermore, we plan several fundraising initiatives per year in an attempt to alleviate the financial burden of select women’s shelters across the globe.
Advocacy and Protection
With the BWES mission always in mind, we strive to create accurate, mindful and informative content for our social media platforms. In addition, we are constantly working towards our long-term goal of funding the construction of a safe house for women and girls seeking refuge from female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and childhood marriages. Please see the "About Us" section for more information about our commitment to this cause.
